A couple weeks before Rise of the Tomb Raider was released, the details of the season pass were announced by Microsoft talking of a new story driven DLC called Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch. Well at this years Game Awards presentation, the DLC got a new announcement trailer, showcasing the spooky caves and wilderness Lara will get to explore. Check out the trailer here!
A couple days ago, Square Enix Montreal released an update for Lara Croft GO including a new level expansion pack called "The Shard of Life". Today it was released on Windows store meaning it is now available everywhere. Additionally the update includes two new outfits previously announced earlier in the month. The Classic skin is available immediately as part of the update, and the Angel of Darkness outfit is obtained by collecting a number of fragments as seen in the game before. Having completed the expansion yesterday, I can safely say this is my favourite mobile game and also my favourite tomb raiding experience on a portable device. Sorry GBA games!
Read my review of Lara Croft GO here. Today marks the 13th of November, where ROTTR is now released everywhere on Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles. The game has already received several very positive reviews, with critics loving it even more than it's predecessor from 2013.
I have finished the game myself and have to say it is one of my all time favourite Tomb Raider games. I plan to write about my thoughts once I have 100% the game, so until then you will have to take my word for it on how amazing the game really is. So Lara Croft GO, the classic raiding adventure set in the Lara Croft universe for mobile devices, is getting some new, familiar outfits! Check them out! That's right! A Classic Tomb Raider skin and an Angel of Darkness skin will be included in an upcoming update to Lara Croft GO very soon.
The Angel of Darkness skin was a skin voted for in a recent survey by Square Enix Montreal where fans voted that they most wanted an AOD skin in the game over the other options. Read my review for Lara Croft GO here. It has been revealed that Karen O, lead singer of the band Yeah Yeah Yeah is the vocalist for a new song added to the Rise of the Tomb Raider soundtrack specifically for the upcoming game! Titled I Shall Rise the songs lyrics conote Lara's journey through Siberia, with "frozen sands" relating to Lara walking through the snow to find the Lost City. The song was used in the Rise of the Tomb Raider launch trailer as well, coming soon to the new The Tomb Raider Archive YouTube account. Listen to the full song here:
Crystal Dynamics have just announced that world-renowned composer Bobby Tahouri is the composer for the score of Rise of the Tomb Raider. His work has covered TV shows, movies and video games, with his most recent work being for the TV series The Haunting Of and the animated movie Despicable Me 2. Check out one of the pieces from the ROTTR soundtrack here from the Crystal Dynamics Soundcloud account:
Crystal Dynamics have announced a Season Pass for Rise of the Tomb Raider as well as details on several new game modes. This will make for epic replayability of the title even after you've completed the game 100%. For details on both the new game modes and the newly announced Season Pass, head over to my pages in the ROTTR section of my site.
Season Pass details. Gameplay mode details. I have been waiting for a Tomb Raider bundle on Xbox One for a while now, as I have recently considered buying one to play the next chapter in Lara's journey. That's why when Microsoft announced the Xbox One bundle with Lara's old adventure (Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition) alongside the next game (Rise of the Tomb Raider, though you all knew that), I was very excited. From the Tomb Raider blog:
The Xbox One Rise of the Tomb Raider bundle features:
Very exciting, however being a UK resident, looks like I'll be finding another Xbox bundle instead. Also 1TB is a little scary to me, considering I already own a PS4 that would be way too many games I'd need to buy to fill all that space! The mobile game that many speculated from the name would be a runner mobile game, has been released in The Netherlands for testing! Play as Lara in new environments using Lara's acrobatic moves to run through tombs, temples and even occupy vehicles. A familiar face will also make an infamous return that will make classic Lara fans happy. :) Continuing with the Lara Croft brand, Lara wears the same outfit that she wore in the Temple of Osiris, and there seems to be some other outfits that will be available in different levels shown in the trailer for the game. The official Tomb Raider tumblr blog had this to say about the new mobile game: "Lara Croft: Relic Run will be free-to-play, launching on iOS, Android, and Win8 Phone and we're aiming for a global release in the coming months. Like the other games in the Lara Croft brand, Relic Run will scratch your itch for nostalgic play - big adventure, over-the-top action, and loads of collectibles couple with fast-paced play." Just last week, TR1 was released for Android after being on iOS for over a year. Now this free-to-play game is set to release in the next few months and I can't wait to get my hands on some more Classic Croft action!
Square Enix has announced that the reboot of the franchise released two years ago has sold over 8.5 milllion copies worldwide, making it the most sold game in the franchise. To celebrate, Crystal Dynamics has released several concept arts of the game, showcasing the beautiful island of Yamatai. Here are my personal favourites from the selection released. Whilst it is saddening that the sales of the originals have been surpassed by the reboot, we can only look forward with this. I for one am very excited with the direction this Lara Croft is going in and I can't wait to follow her on her next adventure.
